                               Light and Darkness

FRIDAY 5TH DECEMBER 2014

AN IRISH ADVENT PRAYER

candles 6

AND THEIR EYES WERE OPENED

                                                       Matthew 9

OPENING SONG OF CHOICE

Reader 1: I want to say one word to you and this word is “joy”. Wherever there are consecrated people, seminarians, men and women religious, young people, there is joy, there is always joy! It is the joy of freshness, the joy of following Jesus; the joy that the Holy Spirit gives us, not the joy of the world. There is joy! but – where is joy born?                                                 Look into the depths of your heart, look into your own inner depths and ask yourself: do you have a heart that desires something great, or a heart that has been lulled to sleep by things? Has your heart preserved the restlessness of seeking or have you let it be suffocated by things that end by hardening it? God awaits you, he seeks you; how do you respond to him? Are you aware of the situation of your soul? Or have you nodded off? Do you believe God is waiting for you or does this truth consist only of “words”?(Rejoice 72-73)

Pause:

ACTS OF CHAPTER:  OUR VISION FOR THE CONGREGATION : A QUALITY OF COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORTS AND INSPIRES US TO LIVE A FULLY COMMITTED AND JOYFUL LIFE, ENABLING US TO BE PROPHETIC WITNESSES OF OUR CHARISM.

Pause:

Reader 2:

An authentic faith always involves a profound desire to change the world. Here is the question we must ask ourselves: do we also have great vision and impetus? Are we also daring? Do our dreams fly high? Does zeal consume us? Or are we mediocre and satisfied with our “made in the lab” apostolic programmes?  (Rejoice 81)

Reader 3:
Gathering in this place where heaven and earth whisper greeting; In this place where the High King of Heaven comes to meet us; We await the coming Hope. We join our faith with the Host of Saints who have gone before us, and we rejoice.

Pause:

ACTS OF CHAPTER: EMPOWERMENT: SISTERS WHO ARE FULLY EQUIPPED, COLLABORATING TOGETHER AND WITH OTHERS AND PASSIONATELY SHARING THE LOVE OF THE SACRED HEART WITH THE POOR, ENSURING THE CONTINUITY OF THE CHARISM AND THE MISSION.

Reader 4:

In the lonely places
The wilderness
Where we stand forlorn
Windswept and alonelight 6
Your voice calls out
ALL: Prepare a way for the Lord

In the dark places
The shadows
Where we hide our fears
Embrace our tears
Your voice calls out
ALL: Prepare a way for the Lord

For the desert places in which we walk
The streets we roam
The paths we cross
Guide our feet
Take us to places
Where you would go
Give us words that you would use
That in this Advent season
Of promise and preparation
We might point the way with John the Baptist
To the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

ALL: Prepare a way for the Lord

Celtic Litany of Praise:

Reader 5:
We are a people waiting in darkness

ALL: LORD OPEN OUR EYES TO THE COMING OF YOUR LIGHT. EMMANUEL GOD WITH US LIFTING THE BURDEN OF DARKNESS FROM OUR LIVES.

 Reader 6:
We are a people who's hearts are chilled by sin and selfishness
ALL: LORD OPEN OUR HEARTS TO THE WARMTH OF YOUR COMING. EMMANUEL GOD WITH US MELT THE HARDNESS THAT KEEPS US FROM LOVING YOU AND EACH OTHER.
Reader 7:
We are a people branches, stems crumpled under weight of frost - last year’s leaves - blackened and slippery underfoot -gripped in winters death, yet awaiting rebirth.
ALL: LORD OPEN OUR HEARTS TO EMMANUEL GOD WITH US, RENEW IN OUR HEARTS YOUR CALL TO NEW LIFE.

advent 6

Scripture Reading: Matthew 9:27-31 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you.” And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly ordered them, “See that no one knows of this.” But they went away and spread the news about him throughout that district.

ALL: O COME O COME EMMANUEL
AND RANSOM CAPTIVE ISREAL
THAT MOURNS IN LONLEY EXILE HERE
UNTIL THE SON OF GOD APPEARS

Pause:

Reader 8:

We take the light of our prayer into the world

ALL: TO PRAY FOR THOSE UNABLE TO PRAY; TO OFFER OURSELVES AS ANSWERS TO PRAYER.

Reader 9:

We take the light of your compassion into the world;

ALL: TO COME ALONGSIDE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED AND SUFFERING. MAY WE BE AS CHRIST FOR THEM.

Reader 10:

We take the light of God's power into the world;

ALL: GOD'S STRENGTH MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS.

Reader 11:

Until we gather again in the presence of the Sacred Three in One

ALL: MAY WE BE HELD FIRM IN THE GRIP OF GRACE.

haND LIGHT 6

Reader 12:

Behold the servant of the Lord (Lk 1:38). The Lord’s servant ran in great haste, to become the servant of all people.

In Mary the Church is all who journey together: in the love of those who go out to the most fragile; in the hope of those who know that they will be accompanied in their going out and in the faith of those who have a special gift to share. In Mary each one of us, driven by the wind of the Spirit, fulfils our own vocation to move out!

CONCLUDING PRAYER

LET US PRAY TOGETHER:

Star of the new evangelisation,
help us to bear radiant
witness to communion,
service, ardent and generous faith,
justice and love of the poor,
that the joy of the Gospel
may reach to the ends of the earth,
illuminating even the fringes of the world.
Mother of the living Gospel,
wellspring of happiness for God’s little ones,
Pray for us.

Celtic Advent Blessing

Deep peace of the running wave to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you,
Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you, forever.

Closing Song of choice
